I did a gig in Newport back in '05. The bass player and I went to the beach and took a dip in the ocean, I think right around this time of year. It was a bit on the cool side, as I recall.
It's not the kind of place to go swimming in the ocean. Lots of people drown here and the waves and weather patterns aren't so friendly. Surfers love it though, it frequently gets huge waves. Sharks are also a problem here.
I don't think I'll be swimming much.
No, I wouldn't recommend it. The rip current was spooky. (We stuck to the shallows.)
